Did you know that there are over 2,600 oil spills each year? 726 million gallons of oil are spilled annually, on average… yet it only takes one quart of oil to contaminate one million gallons of drinking water!
Well, hair salons are helping! Including the one I work for, Studio 9 Salon
Matter of Trust is a charity that is collecting hair to help the oil spills.
300,000 pounds of hair and fur is cut daily in the United States, and some salons and pet groomers are sending their hair clippings to various Matter of Trust warehouses.
Hair is made into oil spill cleanup mats and oil spill containment booms.
It is amazing how much oil the hair can soak up, and they can be re-used!
I’ve included a video for you to see. It is extremely interesting.
And please, when you get your hair cut, if it isn’t at Studio 9, please ask your hairdresser to donate your hair to Matter of Trust.
